A rich heritage
The firm was established in 1855 by Edmund Herring Senior and the name Herring has remained ever since.
During the 1970’s and 80’s the firm was known as Herring and Bathurst. Ian McMillan took over in the 1980’s working in the firm until his retirement 2017. The name Herring is important in Victorian Legal circles, with Edmund Herring Junior attending a local school and going on to Melbourne University and a Rhodes Scholarship in England. He returned to Australia to a blossoming military and legal career during which he commanded the land forces at Kokoda rising to the rank of Colonel. He served as the Chief Justice and Lieutenant Governor of Victoria for 30 years.
